The Kingston and District Hockey Referees Association (KDHRA) was formed in 2003 with the amalgamation of the referee group for the Kingston Township Minor Hockey Association and for the Kingston Hockey Referees Association. Since then, hockey officials from the Loyalist Township Minor Hockey Association and Gananoque Minor Hockey Association have become part of KDHRA. The Association spans the region from Napanee in the west to Gananoque in the east and north to North Frontenac, officiating hockey for 19 different Leagues and Associations within the Greater Kingston area.
KDHRA was part of the Ottawa District Hockey Association for many years but migrated slowly to the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) in 2006-07 when the Church Athletic League became part of the OMHA. In 2007-08, KDHRA became associated solely with OMHA in conjunction with the rest of the minor hockey associations.
KDHRA covers every type of hockey played in the area which includes mens, minor (house and competitive), girls (house and competitive), oldtimers and high school (boys and girls). During the 2007-08 season, the membership comprised over 150 officials who were assigned a total of 5562 games. During this season, the Association is on pace to officiate over 6000 games.
KDHRA uses 3 assignors to schedule officials through an internet based assigning system call Officialcall (www.officialcall.biz). It has been used for the past five years and has proven to be a modern and very successful method to handle the large number of games and officials.
The current Referee in Chief (RIC) of KDHRA is John Dirksen who is serving his first term in this position
